	to go to the front, he wrote in a few minutes both words and music of " Tenting on the Old Camp Ground." Like so many other good things in literature and art, this song waa at first refused publication; but an immense popularity sprang at once from the author's own rendering of it, so that a Boston publisher employed somebody to write a song with a similar title, and in no long time the Messrs. Ditson brought out the original. Its sale has reached the hundred thousands, and it is still selling. Mr. Kittredge has written numerous other songs. He spends his winters in travelling and singing with Joshua Hutchinson, and his summers at his pleasant home of Pine Grove Cottage, near Reed's Ferry, New Hampshire.
